In celebration of International Women in Engineering Day 2025, Qore, Africa’s leading Fintech Infrastructure and Banking-as-a-Service provider, delivering cutting-edge technology, platforms, and services to financial institutions, hosted an event with the goal of inspiring female secondary school students to pursue careers in STEM. This event took place in Lagos, Nigeria under the powerful theme “Together We Engineer,” which is the global theme for this year across the world.
This year’s theme emphasizes the importance of collaboration as a tool in shaping the future of engineering. It recognizes that when women can work together to bring diverse perspectives and talents to the table, the possibilities for innovation are limitless.
At this event hosted by Qore, the students had an interactive session as they got to learn from female leaders in tech. There was an exceptional keynote speech by Sophia O. Emifoniye, the founder of SkillBuddi Technologies, an edtech platform equipping African youth with critical life skills. Sophia sits at the intersection of technology, education, and wellbeing, driven by a vision to build a healthier, more capable Africa. In her session, Sophia stirred the students into being problem solvers. She urged the students to be builders ready to build with purpose and believe in themselves to succeed.
The event also featured sessions from Anthonia Emetarom, Program Manager at WILAN, and Tobi Alaka, founder of Empowher. Wilan global is positioned to support women as they become leaders across various industries while Empowher is a community dedicated to helping young African women thrive in their careers and businesses.
This event brought together students from Grace High School, International School Lagos, Wellsprings College, Dansol High School, Holy Family Saintly Scholars, and Star Diamond School. With this event, Qore has emphasized the importance of having more women in STEM.
“We want girls to see that engineering is not just about machines and equations—it’s about solving real-world problems and making a difference,” said Seyi Amao, Head of Marketing and Communications at Qore. “Together We Engineer is a call to action for everyone to support women in STEM and create more opportunities for them.”
As part of this, there was a design thinking workshop organized by Us Stem Girls (an Orange Mic Initiative) where the students were divided into various groups to come up with a product/solution for real-world problems and also present their solutions. This activity allowed the girls to improve their collaboration, leadership, and teamwork skills.
One of Qore’s most impactful platforms is the Qore Tech Academy, a rigorous one-year program designed to nurture top tech talent across various departments. Each year, the academy receives thousands of applications from aspiring engineers and technologists. Only the most promising candidates are selected for intensive training, mentorship, and real-world project experience.
In 2024, the academy celebrated a major milestone: three out of its five graduating students were women, all of whom have since joined Qore as full-time employees. This achievement reflects Qore’s intentional efforts to create pathways for women to thrive in engineering and technology roles.
As the world faces complex challenges—from climate change to digital transformation—this year’s celebration reinforces a simple but profound truth: engineering is a team effort, and everyone has a role to play. Together, we engineer a better future.
